As part of the “Wetland Weekender”, this is a history-focused walk around the River Otter estuary.

We will walk down to the Lime Kilns, cross the Elizabeth Bridge, up towards Otterton, crossing at Clamour Bridge then Big Bank back to the start. The focus will be on historical aspects before the River Otter was canalised, from the Romans through Saxon invaders to fishing, salt, mills, ports, the wool trade, smuggling, and wars, and will mention some of the recent history as we go along.
