STOP PRESS – CHANGES TO TEMPLER WAY PART 4
Due to storm damage and flooding, the Templer Way route is closed at the Newton Abbott end, which means we have had to shorten the route – it will now be about 6 miles rather than 7.5. However, this will give us more time to appreciate the many points of interest, including new routes through Stover Park! There is now a revised walk description, which you can find below.
"The Templer Way part 4 –Stover Country Park and Stover Canal"
More industrial archaeology and natural history - mostly flat, easy walking

Meet outside the Visitor Centre at Stover Country Park (OS OL28 SX 835752 what3words ///comforted.graphics.crops) at 10 am.
The entrance to the Park is off the A382 Bovey Tracey to Newton Abbot road 300m south of the Drumbridges roundabout on the A38 Exeter to Plymouth Expressway. The car park charge is £4 for longer than 2 hours, so try and car share if you can.
This leg of our walk follows the Ted Hughes Poetry Trail and the Heritage Trail south through Stover Country Park and then explores the River Teign and Stover Canal before heading back to our start point. There is much of interest along the canal and in addition to the built environment, if we are lucky there should be plenty to tempt the wildlife enthusiast with a variety of wildfowl at Stover Lake and the River Teign.
Bring a flask for a coffee stop. Later we will stop at “MT Tums” kiosk café which serves hot and cold drinks and sweet and savoury food (menu here: https://mt-tums.square.site/ ) or you could bring a picnic lunch.
Please book with the Walk Leaders, in case we need to cancel due to bad weather etc. We may also be able to help with sorting out lifts. Any time up to 8am on the day of the walk is fine.
